Finally the rain has abated, the humidity has dropped to a non-drenching level, and the temperature is pleasant. Add in a light breeze and sunny skies, and this is one of the loveliest days in months. Even more amazing - it's occurring on a Saturday when we can enjoy it!
And what better time to implement an idea that I have been considering for a while, to create a newsfeed for the latest canine celebrity to arrive in Roswell, Georgia: Miss Isabelle, or Izzy, as she is affectionately known. A beautiful fawn Great Dane girl, Izzy was re-homed with me back in June (more on that at a later date). She had no trouble establishing herself as the queen of all she surveys, and was quickly terrorizing the local chipmunk and squirrel populations, which had grown complacent following the departure of Izzy's predecessor, the late, great Beauregard (the intrepid explorer memorialized in the photo at right).
Izzy had not done much nature park or wilderness hiking in her earlier years (she is just over four years old), and although initially somewhat timid, she is gradually learning to take the lead and "look good" on the trail. This weekend we've returned to some familiar places: yesterday I took a vacation day which meant the first item on the agenda was to take her walking, and we went to Roswell Area Park. With woodland trails, a lake, and several construction projects, there was plenty to interest her.
Checking Out the Rubber Chip Mulch at Roswell Area Park - 23 August
This morning we made a short outing to East Cobb Park in Marietta, completing a loop early before the crowds came out. Other than a few joggers and a large rabbit, we had the park to ourselves. She has been there several times now, and is starting to know her way around. As the summer wanes and the days get cooler, we'll have the opportunity to venture farther afield and do some serious trail-blazing.
This was a special day also in that Izzy's "birth parents" were able to come visit her in her new home. She had fun playing with them, and was just wallowing in all the attention and affection. Thanks, Casey and Annie for coming to see her! We both enjoyed it very much, and I hope with these posts to keep you and all her "fans" updated on Izzy's exploits!
